New home – new blog post!

View from my office as I write this entry

If someone had told me that when we moved last May that it would be September before posted to this blog, I don’t think I would have believed them. Now you would think that with no pottery studio to go to, I would have lots of time on my hands. But new location translates to new things to do (hiking, watching the bats drink water out of the pool at sundown), new things to get going (pottery studio) and new weather to get used to. I knew it would be hot in Tucson, but someone forgot to tell me that in the summer months it is also humid.

In any event, I hope to get this blog going again.  Part of the problem is that with no pottery studio, there is nothing to post about happenings in the studio.  That is about to change. Plans for the new studio are underway so I hope to have progress pictures to post very soon. And in the meantime, I have signed up to take two ceramics classes.

One class is being given at the Pima County Parks and Recreation’s Northwest Art Center.  I’m taking one of Jada Ahern’s clay classes working with cone 10 stoneware. Met Jada and toured the very spacious and well-set up center yesterday. Class is next Tuesday afternoon so it is time to unpack the pottery tools!

I am also signed up to take the Advanced Ceramics class taught by Janet Burner at the Tucson Museum of Art’s Romero House. The first class is September 30th which will be here before I know it. The Arizona Daily Star profiled Janet in an article this summer.

And finally, the plans for the new studio are being finalized and bid on. So between new classes and new studio construction, I should have more to post soon!

  1. Thanks Lorri! It will be awhile before there is anything to see – ceramics is a slow process – but I am excited to get back to it!
